How to Properly Insert FFC Cable into an FPC Connector

The connection methods for FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) are mainly divided into plug-in and soldering types. The soldering type of FFC cable typically features hollow conductors at both ends, without adhesive film or a stiffener. The plug-in type of FFC cable has one end with gold fingers and the other end with a blue stiffener. Due to the ultra-flexible nature of FFC cables, a stiffener is usually added to the back of the gold fingers to enhance the strength of the insertion end. The stiffener not only increases the thickness at the insertion end but also adjusts the thickness to ensure compatibility with the FPC connector.

Depending on the type of FPC connector, the FFC cable can be inserted either horizontally or vertically. Additionally, depending on the application environment, the cable can be inserted using one or both hands. During the process, special attention should be paid to the marking lines on the stiffener to ensure that the FFC cable is accurately and smoothly inserted into the FPC connector, avoiding any damage or functional abnormalities. The marking lines on the stiffener are crucial for ensuring the correct insertion of the FFC cable. They help the operator determine the depth and direction of insertion, preventing the cable from being inserted crookedly or pushed in too far.

When the FFC cable is inserted up to the marking line, you should stop pushing and ensure that the line aligns with the edge of the FPC connector. In tight spaces, you can hold the cable with one hand and the partially peeled end of the stiffener with the other, allowing for more flexible control of the insertion process and ensuring smooth operation. Additionally, care should be taken to maintain the flatness of the FFC cable, avoiding any bends or twists. When inserting into the FPC connector, ensure that the stiffener is parallel to the connector’s slot to prevent damage to the cable’s end conductors. If the end of the FFC cable is uneven or has burrs, it should be trimmed before insertion.
