Electrical connectors and components are critical interfacing parts in equipment, distributed throughout the system structure and positions, responsible for transmitting signals and power. The quality of connections is directly related to the safe and reliable operation of the entire system. Various circuits are composed of electrical connectors, ranging from high frequency to low frequency, from round to rectangular, from high-current connectors handling hundreds of amperes to high-density connectors for weak signals, from common printed circuit board connectors to specialized quick-disconnect connectors. The vast majority of electrical connector types are widely used in various system engineering applications to ensure the complete functionality of the equipment. Today, I will briefly introduce the basic classifications of electrical connectors:
1. Classification by StructureBased on structure, electrical connectors can be divided into simple connectors and complex connectors. Simple connectors can be composed of multiple components; complex connectors can be composed of upper assemblies integrating electrical, magnetic, pneumatic (liquid, optical), and mechanical components, comprising hundreds of parts and contacts.
2. Classification by ApplicationBased on application, electrical connectors can be classified into general-purpose connectors for signal transmission, connectors for separation between aircraft stages or between aircraft and ground equipment, and connectors for special environments, such as those resistant to heat, cold, fire, deep water, and those that are filtered, radiation-hardened, and reinforced.
3. Classification by Quality GradeBased on quality grade, electrical connectors can be divided into general civil connectors and military connectors suitable for specific applications. Among these, military connectors come in various types and represent the high level of production design technology (quality and reliability) for electrical connectors.
